Me and Tea

Wednesday, February 17th, 2016

Appropos, the post about me ordering plain tea (like savages) in Starbucks. I’ve been meaning to tell you about my blooming relationship with tea, the majesty of all drinks.

When I was a kid I didn’t like tea. At all. I despised it. I thought it tasted vile. To be fair, I didn’t like coffee any more. I think I was well into my twenties until I learned to appreciate a proper cuppa and now, as I can’t drink coffee because my body physically manifests against it, my tea consumption has rocketed.

I think my earlier dislike of tea was because everywhere I went, there was Lipton’s Yellow Label tea, which to be fair is vile still to this day. Even mom, who is now a bit of a tea snob like me, drank that shit. The first time I had a cup of Russian Earl Grey I realised there might be more to tea.

Nowadays, as I said, I am a bit of snob. But only a bit. I would love to drink only loose leaf tea, but I usually have very little time for my cup, so I go for bags. Plain Earl Grey and English Breakfast are my favourites, because I like my tea kinda thick. I also never put milk or sugar or anything in my tea (yea what a savage), I like it as black as my heart. I sometimes drink rooibos or some infusions, but mostly it’s just black tea. And let me tell you Lapsang Souchong is very much overrated.
